Natural Treasures

Our forest spans across a significant portion of the domain, offering a sanctuary for diverse tree species and protected flora. Walking through its paths, you are embraced by the ancient wisdom of the oaks, the resilience of the Scots pines, and the majestic dignity of the black pines, standing like silent sentinels in their rugged armour.
Beyond these giants, the forest reveals a vibrant tapestry of life, where each species tells its own story of light, life and wonder. Scroll down to discover all the giants of our Forest Gallery...

Downy oaks in winter

Several black woodpecker nests in an oak tree
Resilient deciduous trees, whose twisted branches offer a rugged sanctuary for woodpeckers, various species of bats and butterflies, and rare lichens. Deep beneath their roots, they share a silent alchemy with the earth, a sacred bond that gives rise to the Black Diamond truffle.
Tenacious masters of the extremes, these pioneers thrive where others falter, standing firm through bitter alpine frosts and the arid summers of the South. They are the essential life-source for the magnificent Isabella butterfly, whose emerald-winged larvae find sanctuary within their needles.
The silent architects of the mountainside, whose rugged presence heals the fractured earth. Their powerful roots lock the mountain soil in place, providing a steady sanctuary for vulnerable wild orchids and the lush mosses that carpet the earth in their deep, cooling shade.

Scots pines

Beeches
The "Living Cathedral" of the heights, with smooth silver trunks. Their dense foliage filters the sun into a soft emerald glow, protecting a hidden understory of wild violets and stinking hellebores that blanket the fertile, golden humus.
The "Silver Flash" of the mountain slopes, whose leaves are cloaked in a silky snowy down, protecting the trees’ life-force from the parching sun. Beneath their shimmering exterior lies a hidden treasure: a wood of exceptional density and ivory-like grace, prized by master craftsmen for its enduring strength.

Whitebeam fruits

Wild cherry perch
Poets of the spring, scattering a drift of snowy petals upon the mossy floor. Their presence provides sweet treasures for songbirds and shelters rare butterflies that dance in their dappled shade.
The "Gentle Healers" of the forest. In midsummer, they perfume the air with a honeyed fragrance, a golden invitation to the bees, while their blossoms are gathered as a traditional remedy to soothe the spirit. Even in falling, their leaves nourish and heal the earth, creating a fertile cradle of life.

Linden flowers

Field Maple
Vibrant alchemists of the autumn, turning the rugged hillsides into a sea of molten gold and amber.
The "Silver Pillar" of the shaded slopes, standing with an unyielding elegance, cloaked in a shimmering mantle of deep green and silver. Its flat, emerald needles are marked with two hidden stripes of white and Its boughs offer a permanent sanctuary of shade that preserves the mountain's precious moisture through the height of summer.

A tireless "Mountaineer" of the summits, easily recognized by its rough, copper-toned bark and its heavy, pendant boughs, providing a rugged refuge for the crossbill and the red squirrel.

In a remarkable area of the domain, the landscape transforms into an otherworldly scene reminiscent of the lunar surface. These ancient rock formations hold secrets from 170 million years ago, when this region lay beneath the vast Tethys sea.
Today, the sun-baked "Robines" stand as silent witnesses to deep time, their silver-grey slopes revealing the fossilized remains of marine giants and ancient ammonites. This raw, mineral heart of the forest offers a striking contrast to the surrounding greenery, reminding us that the mountain we climb today was once a kingdom of the deep.
These 'Stone Flowers' are the silent echoes of an ancient tide. Their graceful spirals, etched into the dark marls of the domain, remain as the enduring signatures of a sea that vanished eons ago. To find one among the roots of the forest is to touch a fragment of eternity - a fossilized heartbeat of the earth that bridges the gap between the mountain heights and the secrets of the deep.

Sculpted by millions of years of natural forces, the earth here reveals its raw, rhythmic beauty through deep-furrowed ridges and sharp, silvered crests. These "Robines" are the masterpieces of wind and water - a living sculpture carved from the ancient marls that shifts with the light of the Provençal sun, proving that even the stone itself possesses a fluid and ever-changing soul.
Among these mineral waves, one finds hidden alcoves of profound quiet. These "Sanctuaries of Stillness," framed by ancient stone and the soft breath of the pines, offer a rare space for contemplation, inviting the traveler to pause, breathe, and reconnect with the silent heart of the wild.

Our beloved orchard is a testament to the harmony between human cultivation and natural abundance. The cherry trees, in particular, create a breathtaking spectacle during spring blooming and summer harvest. Alongside them, the golden quince glows like a lantern among the leaves, offering its fragrant perfume to the autumn air, while the golden plums hang heavy with the sweetness of the Provençal sun.
This orchard is more than a collection of trees; it is a space for the community to gather, plant, and grow together. By introducing new heritage fruit trees as a collective, we ensure that this land remains a vibrant, edible landscape - a place where every harvest is a shared celebration of our connection to the earth and to our Divine Presence.
The orchard breathes with the changing seasons, offering a continuous bounty that marks the passing of the year. From the first honeyed bite of a midsummer cherry to the aromatic promise of the autumn quince, the land provides a delcious feast of fresh fruits. Each harvest is a moment where the energy of the Provençal sun is transformed into sweetness, inviting the community to gather and taste the vibrant blessings of nature.
